Smile Makeovers

For patients who desire a dramatic new look or even a subtle change, Dr. Karen McNeill is able to combine options such as dental implants, teeth whitening, and porcelain veneers at her Redmond practice as part of a smile makeover plan. Sometimes referred to as 'extreme makeovers,' smile makeovers are generally not that extreme for most patients. There is a wide range of treatment options available. Depending on the desired results, we may use just a few or a variety of techniques to create the perfect smile for you. Your smile makeover may include photo previews, porcelain veneers, dental implants, porcelain crowns, dental bridges, gum shaping, and teeth whitening. There are a number of alternative methods and combinations possible to enhance your smile.

Also known as 'Instant Orthodontics,' porcelain laminate veneers are a "shell covering" placed over the teeth to enhance or correct their appearance. They can close a space between teeth, restore traumatized teeth, repair worn teeth, increase the size, replace deteriorating restorations, conceal badly stained teeth, and straighten misaligned teeth. Hence, 'instant' orthodontics - in as few as two visits, you can have the beautiful smile you have always wanted. To learn more about porcelain veneers at our Redmond, Washington, practice, please contact Dr. McNeill and the Smile Artistry team today.

Invisalign® Orthodontics

Invisalign®In addition to porcelain veneers, our Seattle area practice is proud to offer our patients revolutionary Invisalign® technology. Invisalign® allows patients to straighten teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable aligners. Patients with teeth that are overcrowded, too far apart, or have shifted since wearing braces may find Invisalign® an ideal solution to their orthodontic problems. Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, we will provide you with a carefully produced series of customized aligners. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks, moving your teeth gradually - week by week, millimeter by millimeter - until the intended results are attained. Invisalign® has three advantages over metal braces. First, the aligners are virtually invisible. Second, they are completely removable, which allows you to eat whatever you want. Third, they are more comfortable and have no metal to irritate your mouth. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of your case; however, the average length is about 12 months.

" TMJ" (TMD)/Neuromuscular and Bite Analysis

Dr. McNeill and the Smile Artistry team are pleased to offer neuromuscular and bite analysis, the most effective technology for diagnosis and treatment in this highly specialized field of dentistry. Neuromuscular dentistry evaluates and treats your overall oral health by considering how your muscles, teeth, bite, and joints all work together. This allows us to focus on the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, which is the joint located near each earlobe where your upper and lower jaws are joined together. For many people, TMJ is a source of constant, nagging pain, resulting in a condition known as TMD, or temporomandibular disorder. Fortunately, Smile Artistry has the technology and experience to treat TMJ problems at our Seattle area practice.

Symptoms of TMJ / TMD may include jaw pain when chewing, clicking noises when eating, headaches, neck aches, or a jaw that locks open or closed. To evaluate if there is a TMJ problem, our Redmond, Washington, practice uses a device that completely relaxes specific facial muscles. Once the muscles are relaxed, we are able to compare your usual bite with the relaxed jaw position. We can then determine whether your bite should be adjusted. Optimal bite and jaw position are essential in dental care, though very few practices offer the level and quality of treatment that Smile Artistry offers.

If you are suffering from any of the above symptoms and would like to learn more about TMJ, please contact our Seattle area practice today. Dr. McNeill and the Smile Artistry team would be pleased to perform a TMJ evaluation at our Redmond, Washington, office.

Crowns
Also called caps, crowns securely cover fractured or broken teeth. They also replace old over-sized fillings. For a permanent restoration that identically matches your own teeth, we are now able to combine beauty and strength with the use of space-age materials. Primarily, we use all glass crowns rather than the traditional metal and porcelain crowns. They allow for a more conservative approach with less removal of valuable tooth structure. These crowns are an excellent choice to lend strength, beauty, and longevity to damaged teeth.

Bridges
Bridges are a fixed or non-removable prosthesis constructed to replace one or more missing teeth. The teeth on either side of the existing space anchor the bridge. We are now able to construct beautiful full porcelain bridges and porcelain over metal bridges to produce beautiful aesthetic results.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are, for many, the ideal option for permanently replacing one or more missing teeth. Dental implants require more invasive surgery than most of our other treatments. These implants are not recommended for everyone because the patient must have existing healthy bone and gum tissue to be considered a suitable candidate. A comprehensive examination will determine whether dental implants are an appropriate option for you. If it is determined that they are, Smile Artistry will customize your implants so that they look natural and feel virtually identical to your own natural teeth. To learn more about dental implants, please contact Smile Artistry in Redmond, Washington, today.

Non Surgical Facelifts

Cosmetic plastic surgeons have been performing facelifts for years. However, plastic surgery can be painful and require a lengthy period of recovery. These days, cosmetic dentistry offers an alternative. As we grow older, the lower portion of the face tends to shrink, lips become thinner, and the skin starts to sag and wrinkle. At Smile Artistry, we are able to reduce these signs of aging dramatically by manipulating your smile. For some patients, this procedure - which can be performed in as few as one or two office visits - improves not only their appearance but also their self-esteem and overall outlook on life.

Non Surgical facelifts - before & after photo For example, if you have a round face, we can give your face a longer, more angular appearance. If your lower jaw or bite appears sunken, we can lift it either subtly or radically, depending on your goals. Depending on your desired results, we may use one or several treatment methods, including changes to the width, length, thickness, and even placement of teeth.

Mercury-Free Fillings

Mercury-free, tooth-colored fillings are now the accepted alternative to traditional amalgam silver fillings. Dr. McNeill supervises the creation of your fillings to ensure that they perfectly match the color of your existing teeth. No longer do patients have to endure the unsightly look of metal when they smile. As a further benefit, tooth-colored fillings are potentially safer than their traditional counterparts, as many believe that the mercury present in silver fillings may be toxic. Aside from being healthier and more aesthetically pleasing than silver fillings, tooth-colored fillings are also more resistant to breakage.

Cleanings and Oral Hygiene

For preventative care and optimum oral health, regularly scheduled appointments for cleaning and oral hygiene are essential. At Smile Artistry, our hygienists have the highest level of training available, far exceeding industry standards. In their approach to cleaning, they are gentle but extremely thorough. In addition, the advanced technology at Smile Artistry allows us to offer under-the-gum, ultra-microscopic deep cleanings. We use micro-endoscopic technology to view, clean, and treat the area below the gum line.

Gingival Laser Sculpting / Gum Plastic Surgery (Gum Lift) / Cold Sore Treatment

At Smile Artistry, we have the skills and technology to remedy a host of oral problems, including those resulting from periodontal (gum) disease. Uneven gums can play tricks on a smile, making teeth look slanted or unusually out of proportion. Too much gum can make teeth look short. To create a more satisfactory appearance, we can reshape the gum line using state-of-the-art laser technology. Lasers are more precise and gentle than conventional instruments, offering greater comfort and reduced recovery time for patients. In addition, lasers can be used to treat cold sores. We can instantly reduce their size and make them less noticeable.

Periodontal (Gum) Treatment Using Perioscopy

Traditionally, the more aggressive treatment option for people suffering from periodontal disease was surgery. Now, a new procedure called perioscopy minimizes the need for this invasive approach. Micro-digital video technology enables us to view and treat the areas below the gum line without the discomfort and inconvenience of surgery. Perioscopy is primarily utilized for gum disease problems. It is also used to diagnose cavities, fractures, and other tooth problems under the gum line. Before the advent of this technology, such diagnosis was impossible without surgery. Smile Artistry was one of the first practices in the Northwest to incorporate this technology, and we continue to expand our knowledge of and training in the treatment of periodontal disease.

Dental Diet System (DDS) for Weight Loss

The Dental Diet System (DDS) is the latest advancement in weight loss, and it is available only through professional dentists. Dr. McNeill is proud to offer this option to qualifying patients with weight problems. This brand new method of weight reduction operates on the principle that most people eat too fast and, consequently, too much. We all have a built-in system called satiety that tells our brains when we have had enough to eat. With DDS, a custom insert is discreetly fitted to the roof of your mouth. This appliance decreases the size of the oral cavity. While eating, this simple device trains you to take smaller and slower bites. It is only worn when you eat. When you are finished eating, you simply remove, clean, and store it in the case provided. Over time, it will modify your eating behavior, and you will learn new eating habits. Safe and drug-free, DDS has proven to be an extremely effective tool for weight loss.

If you would like to learn more about dental implants, TMJ therapy, teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, or any of our other high quality treatment options, please contact Dr. Karen McNeill and the Smile Artistry team in Redmond, Washington, today.
